What is a concussion?

A concussion is brain injury that occurs when the brain experiences a stretching/shearing of neurons that results in injury to the white matter of the brain, with possible grey matter involvement.

Signs of a Concussion

  • Neck pain

  • Nausea

  • Dizziness

  • Blurred vision

  • Balance problems

  • Light sensitivity

  • Noise sensitivity

  • Feeling slowed down

  • Feeling “in a fog”

  • Fatigue

  • Irritability

  • Sleep problems

  • Affect changes, anxiety, or depression

  • Changes in personality

  • Apathy

Red flags

  • Loss of consciousness

  • Severe headache / headache that worsens

  • Seizures

  • Weakness in any extremities

  • Vomiting

  • Numbness or tinging

  • Abnormal sense of taste

  • Changes / decreased alertness

  • Changes in vision​
